Insignia placement on bomber jackets uses a fixed vertical reference from the collar to keep ranks clearly visible and uniformly placed. The rank should sit with its top edge about one inch below the bottom edge of the collar. This location keeps the insignia up toward the upper chest, away from the zipper, and aligns with established uniform guidelines. Placing it one and a half inches down would push it too far onto the chest; orienting it parallel to the outer edge doesn’t establish the correct vertical relationship to the collar; centering it on the chest without referencing the collar fails to meet the standard vertical alignment.
